Municipal Revenue Cartoon

This spring, MLA Laurie Blakeman has introduced Bill 204, the Provincial-Municipal Tax Sharing Act in the Legislative Assembly. This bill calls for the government to bring forward a mechanism in which municipalities would receive a portion of personal and corporate income tax revenues.

If passed, this bill will give our municipalities access to a new, sustainable source of revenue. It will be a new tool to support ever-increasing demands for municipal services. And it will start a conversation about the relationship between municipalities and the province.

Giving municipalities a portion of income tax revenue is an important step to sustaining our cities and towns so that they can face the challenges of the future. But Bill 204 won't pass without your help. Read on to find out what steps you can take to make your voice heard.
